Not sure what to give an office or hospital staff? Do you know the symbolism behind the various colours of roses? Let our 40+ years of experience guide you in the right direction. (For the basics, you can Shop by Occasion.)

In general, one issue comes up most often- a sender obsesses over the details of a gift basket by saying that the recipient doesn't like (choose one or more of) chocolates or nuts or coffee, etc. What is overlooked is that the recipient, even when an individual, doesn't necessarily eat everything him or herself. He shares, save things for a later occasion, etc. And this is all the moreso for a family or someone in the hospital who has numerous visitors.

Recipients

Office or Hospital Staff:

The Classic Variety Basket or Natural Basket or a Gift Tower. They have something for every taste (chocolates, biscuits, nuts, tea, etc.) and we make sure to include items/packages/sizes that are easy to share.

Hospital Patient

While flowers are a classic and simple choice, the reality is that some sections of hospitals frown upon flowers because of their strong scents or because they absorb oxygen in the room. If you don't wish to take this chance, consider a balloon bouquet which is just as colourful but will last much longer than flowers.

The Classic Variety Basket also does the trick. For one who's not terribly ill, a bunch of Caramel Apples can help alleviate the pain.

Occasions

Jewish Sympathy / Shiva

Do not give flowers as that is against Jewish tradition. A simple food item is most appreciated and that can be a Fruit Basket or Kosher Variety Basket. Even to a non-observant family, it's appropriate to give kosher because of the many kinds of visitors they receive.

Roses

It's true, men- the various colours of roses actually mean something and aren't just made to look pretty.

Lavender/Purple: Love at first sight, enchantment. A bouquet of these roses sends a bold message.

Orange: These roses symbolize enthusiasm and desire, thanks to their warm, vibrant tones. Such fiery blooms are a perfect way to express admiration and attraction - with an underlying message of passion and excitement. For taking the relationship to the next level, or reminding your long-time special someone that the fires are still burning.

Peach
: Appreciation, gratitude.

Pink: It's no surprise that pink symbolizes gentility, femininity, elegance and grace, which makes a bouquet of pinks ideal for a girlie-girl. As well, pink represents appreciation, admiration and gratitude.

Red: Okay, this much you know, but we'd like to say it anyway- the ultimate symbol of romantic love and enduring passion, the red rose also conveys respect and the creative spirit of love. Representing true love stronger than thorns, the red rose is known universally as the lover’s rose.

White: The white rose is often referred to as the bridal rose and represents purity and innocence and is associated with young love. In old Scottish culture, a white rose that bloomed in autumn was seen as a token of early marriage. Also symbolizing truth and reverence, it sends a message of loyalty and worthiness. Ideal for the early stages of a promising relationship.

Yellow: What began as a symbol of jealousy in the Victorian days, today yellow roses represent friendship, joy and caring. A bouquet of these sun-filled blossoms conveys warmth, gladness and affection. For a special friend.

Red and White: Unity

Red and Yellow: Joy and happiness.
